A Bessemer City woman was killed in a two-car crash in Kings Mountain Saturday afternoon.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Joy Johnson, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene following a head on collision on N.C. 161 just north of Velvet Drive.
Troopers indicated the crash happened around 3:40 p.m. Saturday after Johnson, driving north in a 2005 Buick passenger car, crossed the center line and collided with a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu.
Johnson was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to troopers.
Multiple occupants of the Malibu were transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, according to Trooper Ray Pierce.
Pierce said weather conditions were not a factor in the crash, but said troopers are uncertain why Johnson crossed the center line.
It's also the second fatal accident to occur on N.C. 161 this year. Terry Roof Starkey, 58, of Kings Mountain, died Jan. 2, after she also crossed the center line and collided with a South Carolina couple driving a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder.
