The Woman’s Club in Leisure World is a non-profit philanthropic organization with approximately 140 members. The club was one of the first clubs in Leisure World to be organized and continues through today. The object of the organization is loyalty to the community with opportunities for social service. Women who are Leisure World residents are welcome to visit a couple of our meeting and see what we are all about before becoming a member. The club’s annual dues are $25.00.
The Woman’s Club regular meetings are held on the first Tuesday from October through June each year. The meetings are held in Clubhouse 2 and start at 1:30 p.m. No regular meetings are held in July or August. In September each year the club holds its annual fund raiser to endow the club’s philanthropic causes. Both members and non-members are invited to attend. Among our monthly philanthropic gifts is our annual donation to the scholarship program at Golden West College School of Nursing.
The regular monthly meetings usually include an outside professional entertainer followed by refreshments. Each month the club awards a financial donation to a charitable organization within Leisure World or in the local community. In addition, special events are occasionally schedule during the year, such as Bingo, a Thank You Luncheon for Members, or an ice cream social, among other fun activities. There is always an opportunity drawing at each regular meeting.
Members are also eligible to attend the Woman’s Club monthly card party on the 3rd Friday of every month in Clubhouse 2 at 11:30 a.m. A catered luncheon is served for a nominal fee. Bridge and Canasta are the popular games, but any table game can be played by reserving a table for the game. There is an opportunity drawing at each of the card party meetings, also.
