Base Salary
In addition to a base salary, you may be eligible to receive one or more annual incentive pays and/or specialty pays.
- Cadet-Communications will attend a 12 week Academy at the City of Austin Public Safety Training Campus. Cadet-Communications experience a varied curriculum that develops understanding of the Austin and Travis County areas, our local Computer Aided Dispatch system, Medical Priority Dispatch System protocols, Rescue and Special Call triages.

Promotions and Transfers
The Houston Police Department offers lateral and promotional opportunities in over 45 divisions.
Promotion to Sergeant
A police officer is currently eligible for promotion to the rank of sergeant once they have attained five (5) years of service from their hire date as a cadet.
Promotion to Lieutenant
Sergeants are eligible to promote to the rank of lieutenant after two (2) years in grade as a sergeant and must have attained an associate's degree or completed a minimum of 65 hours towards a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Promotion to Commander
Lieutenants are eligible to promote to the rank of commander after two (2) years. Candidates for promotion to the rank of commander must have obtained a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
Requirements and Appointed Positions
Promotion to the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant, and commander each require passing a written examination and an assessment center in order to be placed on a promotional eligibility list. Commander is the last rank that can be attained via the testing process.

2. BASE & DRILL ACCESS IS BY LIST ONLY. HOUSTON DIVISION DRILL ACTIVITIES ARE LIMITED TO STAFF AND CADETS ONLY. NEW RECRUIT & TRANSFER PARENTS ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO STAY FOR DRILL ON THE FIRST VISIT, PER CO APPROVAL. PARENTS ARE EXPECTED TO DROP OFF CADETS AT MUSTER AND RETURN FOR DISMISSAL.
3. CADETS WILL MAINTAIN THE US NAVAL SEA CADET CORPS PROPER GROOMING STANDARDS. HAIRCUTS AND SHAVING (IF APPROPRIATE) FOR MALE CADETS. FEMALE CADETS WILL HAVE THEIR HAIR EITHER CUT TO THE APPROPRIATE LENGTH OR THEIR HAIR WILL BE PUT IN A BUN ACCORDING TO THE USNSCC REGULATIONS. PLEASE REFER TO YOUR UNIFORM MANUAL FOR UPDATES AND SPECIFIC REFERENCES.
